About Vets Choice Pet Insurance
Vets Choice insurance for pets was created in collaboration with the AVA and backed by a 25-year collaboration with Guild Insurance. The Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) is excited for Guild Insurance to be our long and valued partner and product provider for pet insurance. We are genuinely excited to offer Vets Choice to the pet insurance market, as we understand the important role that pet insurance can play in the life of a pet and a pet owner if something goes wrong. We look forward to our Pet Insurance venture, with the AVA continuing to work with Guild to ensure that Vets Choice is a high-class and competitively priced product developed for both pets and vets.

Vets Choice Pet Insurance Reviews from Australian Pet Owners
I didn't think I would care about pet insurance
We’ve had our lovely boy Baxter for 3 years now, and we always thought insurance was waste, but better to be safe than sorry. We finally had to use the insurance that we paid so much for, and it was actually worth it, and we are so happy that we had it. Vets Choice have been very courteous and professional the whole time, and they made sure that our dogs health was the number one priority the whole time. Baxter is a cavoodle with a ligament tear in his back right leg. Vets Choice paid over the full amount of the cost, $3,000. They will also pay again in future if he needs surgery again at no extra cost (so they say…).
Changing when our policy finishes this year
We have been paying per insurance for 2 years (in November) and recently had to make two claims. What they don’t tell you when you sign up is that if each claim comes under a different category you have a $200 excess. So for my dog eating a hot cross buns, it cost me $250 in vet bills, I got $50 back. After paying for 2 years, value of money, just isn’t there for us. They processed our claims quickly though which was good.
They don't care about their customers
I made a claim in July. I am still waiting for their response until now. I sent two follow-up emails since then. No one cares about you and how you feels. Escape from this product. It is a scam!!!!
A worthy expense
Joined Vets Choice as part of my pups first vet visit. I really didn’t understand what I was paying for and questioned at times whether it was worth it but decided to continue it for at least the first two years of my dogs life. Especially with being a pedigree and potential issues that could arise. By 20 months an allergy to grass was diagnosed as allergen dermatitis. I had spent ~$3,000 over all the vet visits and was facing additional cost to see a specialist.
My vet and the specialist submitted pre-approval applications and in no time I was contacted by a friendly, engaged and caring agent who explained everything clearly to me. End result being full reimbursement for past and future cost’s related to this claim
Price doubled in two years
Premium went from just over $500 to over $1000 in two years.
Barely cover you
Must be the only insurance that doesn’t cover kidney and heart issues , yet does not disclose this . Nothing in the exclusions list . Be very careful ! Typical vet written policy , they know where expense for illness come from . Lucky I found this out before my cat has any issues.
Be very aware that illness coverage is specific and limited.
We bought the Pro coverage thinking it was a good policy but got a rude shock when an illness claim – a lasting ear infection requiring couple of sedations to clean – was rejected. Turns out it’s not a specified illness in the Pro policy and only up to 1K in the Elite, which would have been next to useless to us. To add insult to injury, we submitted a request for pre-treatment authorization, which was overlooked in their system and only came to light when we called after the procedure. Knowing that it was not covered could have changed our approach.
If you look at this policy, make sure you read the specified conditions carefully and know that if you pet gets something outside of those, its on you. It’s easy to speed read the policy and think you have cover for illness when you don’t.
Rip off. Look elsewhere
Like every insurance company, you pay for years and then when needed they wriggle out of paying. Do not trust this company. They will not pay your pets medical needs when you need them most. Go elsewhere.
NO-ONES CHOICE LET ALONE VETS.
took 4 weeks to process a pre-approved claim – I’m now homeless notice that it’s really hard to find the claims page on their website – that’s because they to make it extremely difficult to even make a claim. it’s not a smooth process like everywhere else g you have to actually speak to someone – so you have no proof the convo even happened
Very dissatisfied and disappointed at such a ridiculous clause.
Due to separation the insurance needed to be changed into my ex partner’s name as he was going to be looking after the payments and the dog was staying with him. Dog was staying in the same house since brought home in 2023. Same Elite cover insurance policy since the same time, same dog. When the name on the policy was changed we were told there was a 21 day stand down period. Why? Dog hasn’t changed, his home hasn’t changed only the person whose name was on the policy has. Very dissatisfied and disappointed at such a ridiculous clause.
